Oc is to take up distribution rights for MAN Roland's digital colour presses in an agreement that both parties say may be the first of several strategic alliances over the next two years.
The agreement, signed after months of negotiation, covers the Xeikon-based DICOpress digital web press, the simplex full-colour DICOpack, and the DICOpage cut-sheet digital press.
These products are all used in the corporate world, in sectors like banking, utilities, finance and direct mail, where digital printing equipment manufacturer Oc already has a strong black-and-white presence.
The deal has considerable strategic value for both companies, according to Murray Lock, marketing director of MAN Roland's UK agent, PPS.
"Oc gets the colour product that it needs - and that corporate market is not our core business and we are missing it. Oc is a very strong partner."
The deal also covers related consumables. "We get revenue from the sales of machines and a support role into new markets - everything is extra for us," said Lock.
"Commercial printers are something that the UK operation has got to develop. It's in both our interests to make this work."
MAN Roland acquired Agfa's digital print division last year, and the new MAN/Oc deal effectively replicates a former alliance between Agfa and Oc.
