New year's prediction: Sam Neal, Geoff Neal Litho

Geoff Neal Litho managing director Sam Neal gives PrintWeek his new year's predictions...

What do you think will the greatest opportunity for and threat to printers next year?
Competing and beating SMS marketing and the internet/email – the ROI on good print and DM is consistent and is proven.

What do you believe is the most under-recognised aspect in printing that is likely to become more important in 2010?
The value of a good printer and his/her knowledge and expertise – i.e. using our knowledge to maximise the printed area, reduced wastage, produce more complicated work, get artwork right earlier on to reduce mistakes and reproofing – to help creatives realise their ideas.

How important do you think Ipex will be?
Not that important – the manufacturers are talking about their new kit, software etc all the time as they are desperate to sell something – we’ll go as you never know – I am hopeful Kodak will have some exciting digital advances.

What can the industry do to increase its profile next year?
Stop fighting internally – use pro-skills to raise our profile – actually say something about the industry as we haven’t said anything so far – and we’re a good industry and have a good story to tell.

What will you do differently next year?
We’ll continue to invest. We’re looking to become a multi-platform printer: we’ll continue to sell hard and to get into new markets; we’ll look to be stronger on our payment terms; we’ll try to promote the value of print and not be embarrassed by that and the value we can add by talking to us
