The acquisition has broadened Monotype’s intellectual property offerings and given it access to Ascender’s typeface design and development talent, as well as its long-standing relationships with clients such as Google and Microsoft.
Following the deal, the Ascender Originals typeface library will join the Monotype, Linotype and ITC collections as the newest member of Monotype Imaging’s premier font libraries.
Scott Landers, chief financial officer at Monotype, said: "Ascender is a great fit for us. The acquisition meets key criteria for growing our business, including extending our intellectual property and expertise, while adding key customer relationships, especially in our display imaging business."
All 12 Ascender employees have joined Monotype Imaging, including former Ascender president Ira Mirochnick, who has been appointed general manager of Display Imaging.
