Minprint to open up dedicated wide-format site

Commercial printer Minprint has purchased a second unit to house its wide-format kit as it looks to expand its wide-format operation.

The Belfast-based outfit has bought a 750sqm unit just up the road from its current 1,400sqm premises on Castlereagh Road.

Minprint currently has an HP DesignJet and Scitex FB700 as its main equipment for its wide-format arm, along with an Esko cutting table. Minprint director Jamie McMinnis, who’s father founded the business that turns 40 next year, said the DesignJet and Esko would be relocated to the new premises, but possibly not the Scitex.

McMinnis is currently in the process of looking at a number of additional bits of wide-format kit and will be “signing on the dotted line” in the next couple of weeks, with a view to having moved into the premises by the end of October and being at full wide-format production before the end of the year.

“This has been in the pipeline for some time,” said McMinnis.

“It is a growing market and we want to expand our customer base and just generally add value to products that are more niche and bespoke. We want to try and expand the display side of the business as well, trying to get into the higher-end side of things.

“We purchased flatbed technology two years ago and flatbed cutting technology one year ago and this has whet our appetite to take a big dive into exhibition and display. Having the space to do fully-blown corporate signage is something we would also consider spreading our wings towards.”

McMinnis broke down Minprint’s current offering as being 80% litho, 10% digital and 10% wide-format but said he would like that to change quickly after the move to lean more toward wide-format.

On the litho side, Minprint runs a B2 Heidelberg Speedmaster XL 75, installed in February 2015, and on the digital side, it runs a Xerox CP1000.

It employs around 50 staff.
