Mega Image upgrades cutting

Mega Image is set to take on a Polar N78 Plus guillotine from Heidelberg to boost its cutting quality and long-term reliability.

The Slough-based commercial printer has invested £32,000 in the machine, which will be installed in December.

The kit will replace an existing EBA 55, which will be sold on, and will join six Morgana machines as well as two Xerox digital presses, two Roland DG wide-format printers and a Roland DG VersaUV LEF-300 flatbed printer that the company uses to produce promotional products.

The N78 Plus can process stock ranging from 80gsm for invoice pads through to 540gsm for some business cards. The cutting width and feed depth are both 780mm.

Mega Image also looked at alternatives including the EBA 72 and the Schneider Senator but decided on the Polar after visiting a Heidelberg open house event.

“We are spending a lot of time on the guillotine at the moment and the main reason we have purchased the Polar N78 Plus is to reduce this,” said managing director Leonard Ceausu.

“We deal with a lot of clients and this guillotine will make a huge difference because we can do much more at once – it’s twice as fast as our current machine.”

He added: “Our guillotine must perform consistently well now and in the years to come. We know the Polar N78 Plus will do that and its programmability will be critical to maximising throughput.”

Mega Image was established in Ealing in 2015 but has since moved to the Slough Trading Estate, where it is positioned alongside 500 other businesses. Ceausu said this has been good for trade, with the company now handling three times the volume of work it was two years ago.

With four staff and a turnover of just over £300,000, Mega Image produces items including business cards, invitations, NCR pads, luxury and business stationery, leaflets, posters, roll-up banners and promotional items for customers of all sizes from a variety of sectors.
