The first is a new flexographic plate, Flexcel, which comes in three different versions to suit all segments of the packaging market, such as labels, corrugated, flexible and folding cartons.
Flexcel SRH is a high-durometer plate for the most challenging print requirements such as halftones and solids. SRM is mid-durometer and is suitable for a range of substrates from tissue to flexible film. SRC is said to be ideal for halftones on corrugated board.
KPG marketing manager Pat Holloway said the introduction of a flexo plate was a logical progression for the company. Were dealing with a lot of [packaging] firms already through supplying matt film its not far from our existing business.
The company will team up with parent Sun Chemical on a joint marketing approach for Flexcel, which is manufactured in Japan, and controlled sales will begin this year. A digital plate is under development.
A new version of KPGs Approval digital proofer aimed at packagers has been launched this week at Japanese trade show Igas, which is currently underway in Tokyo.
Approval NX features new Rapid Recipe Color technology, enabling it to produce spot colours twice as quickly as before. The device lays down four densities each of CMYK and spot colours simultaneously, instead of one at a time, eliminating the need for multiple imaging.
It can print on any stock in all colours, including Hexachrome, Pantone and metallics, said Holloway. Before it could take an hour to do a very accurate packaging proof. Because this cuts out multiple imaging it takes 20 minutes.
Approval NX is available immediately and XP4 users can upgrade to the new specification.
