Jarrolds manufacturing director Alec Ogle has left the firm after a reshuffle left his position redundant.
Managing director William Mills said: We wanted to bring customer service closer to manufacturing to make the business more customer-focused. He said the reshuffle would help Jarrolds improve its supply chain management.
The firm is also cutting another 14 jobs from its 425-strong workforce and is looking for volunteers. In the web offset industry attention is always on the cost base. In a very competitive market we have to be acutely aware of it, said Mills.
Any redundancy is extremely painful for the firm. But it does nobody any favours by being less viable by not facing up to the need to control costs.
Ogle had been at Jarrolds for five years and Mills said letting him go was a traumatic decision. Hes a very capable man and Im sure he will do very well within the industry or in consultancy.
Mills said the re-organisation was not based on any faults in Jarrolds customer service. Fortunately I have never heard anybody saying that, but its our job to anticipate things, he added.
