Heligon launches cut-out plug-in

A London-based developer of image algorithms has developed a Photoshop plug-in that it claims can slash the time and cost of making cut-outs of complex images.

Heligon's Vertus Fluid Mask uses image processing techniques based on the human visual system to analyse images and it claims that the combination of this clever processing and a meta data layer in the image is unique.

As well as slashing the time taken to mask or cut out complex images the firm also claimed it makes some subjects the would previously be dismissed as too complicated to cut out achievable. It also suggested that the time savings offered could keep manual pre-press tasks such as cut outs in the UK counteracting the move towards offshoring.

The Mac version of the software will be launched on 1 June with the PC version following in July.
