Its not only timing, but also location. Regional shows need a regional venue. But the NEC isnt right for the nature of the show, said Todd.
Heidelberg held off making the decision, but said it now felt comfortable spending the money on exhibiting at Northprint.
You have to decide how much extra business youd get from going compared to not going. But theres not enough interest in Print UK, and I dont believe it will go ahead, said Todd.
Northprint now has 66 confirmed exhibitor contracts, including KBA, Sakurai, AB Dick and Apex Digital Graphics. It also expects confirmation from other big names like Creo, MAN Roland and Komori, to bring it to around 100 exhibitors.
BAPC is a majority shareholder of Print UK, but chairman Sidney Bobb said he was reviewing the situation regarding exhibitions.
We have been talking to relevant people and taking advice from the industry. We may make a decision next week, said Bobb.
David Peevers, head of marketing at Trade Events, the organiser and a shareholder of Print UK, said other companies were still sitting on the fence.
Its not good when theres uncertainty, but its all still speculation. We must accept the realities of the market and we have a strong programme of events for next year, which are in tune with the market, said Peevers.
Heidelberg wont confirm what it will show at Northprint until January, but said it would be appropriate to the exhibition, the current market and the size of stand, which is a third smaller than last year at just over 200m2.
