The Labour Party is looking for stability in its income from the unions, said GPMU national officer Mike Griffiths, who said a working party would be set up to debate the issue.
Labour wants to guarantee income from the main trade unions until 2008.
Griffiths said the union did not link funding to policy issues, such as its difference of opinion with Labour over the UKs entry into the Eurozone. It is perfectly legitimate for us to fall out with the Government or to be outraged on lack of progress over certain issues, he said.
Griffiths said the GPMU had been one of the few unions to keep its funding for Labour constant.
