Goss installs first Sunday 5000 - world's biggest press

Press manufacturer Goss has installed the first of three Sunday 5000 presses - the biggest press in the world.

Italian magazine printer Grafiche Mazzucchelli has already begun printing on the machine, which it ordered in 2007. It is due to take on a second, which it signed for at last year's Drupa, sometime in the future.

This additional press will be the third Sunday 5000 installed in the world, as Spanish commercial and magazine printer Altair, part of Circle Printers, has announced it will put in one of the presses before the end of this year.

Jean Segura, director of sales at Goss International, said: "We’re proud to receive this order from Altair, which further confirms industry confidence in our pioneering superwide web offset technology.

"During such a challenging economic period, this is an endorsement of the opportunities available through new technology."

The 2860mm-wide commercial web offset press allows 96 full A4 magazine pages per cylinder revolution to be printed at up to 40,000 impressions per hour.
