GMG boasts alternative to ICC

GMG is promoting its Camflow software as a quicker, higher quality way of converting digital images from RGB to CMYK.

GMG claims that using the 4D colour transformation technology from its proofers  produces a higher quality and more accurate result than ICC-based colour conversion, and cuts down on the need for manual colour editing and retouching in Photoshop.

"It's massive, it's our future as the market moves to soft proofing," said GMG UK business development manager Ian Scott.

Camflow is of particular interest to photographers and catalogue publishers, according to GMG dealer Turning Point Technologies. The 4D colour conversion, which when working CMYK ensures the black channel is preserved, is also rousing interest for CMYK-to-CMYK conversion.

Despite using a different technique to process images to ICC-based software, Camflow can work in an ICC environment taking in and exporting ICC profiles.

The next version, which is about to be released, has the ability to convert images within PDFs, allowing the adoption of PDF workflows almost right up to the press. The software costs from 3,000 to 12,000.
