Version 8.3 has also increased the number of devices that can run PDF retained raster, which improves the speed of variable data processing by screening and storing static graphical elements for re-use on multi-page jobs.
According to the supplier, the feature helps speed up the processing of variable data regardless of whether the PDF files were created using specific variable data tools.
Martin Bailey, chief technology officer at Global Graphics, said: "Our development roadmap for the Harlequin RIP is focussed on introducing incremental benefits that will have an immediate impact on the productivity of print shops.
"When it comes to screening, this new version of the RIP extends support for Harlequin Cross-Modulated Screening (HXM) that addresses the issue of printing on lower quality papers while meeting higher customer expectations," he added.
Users should enquire with suppliers as to the availability of the latest version of Harlequin Plus Server RIP.
