"Aluminium costs are up by 60% in the past month alone," said Fujifilm Graphic Systems UK director Keith Dalton. "China is placing huge demands for raw materials, so the starting costs are high and then there are rising energy costs too."
Although aluminium is one of the biggest costs of a plate Fujifilm, alongside other consumables firms, has also felt the pinch from increased distribution costs caused by high oil prices.
"We've been sitting on it [rising costs] for some time, but there comes a time when you can't sit on it anymore," he said.
The news follows Kodak's announcement last year of price rises and Agfa's decision to raise prices between 10-15% at the start of the year.
Rising energy and oil costs have hit paper and ink suppliers too, with the knock on of increased prices being imposed on printers from virtually all their suppliers.
