FSP turns to GAE for short-run machine

Trade finisher FSP Print Finishing has invested in a Horizon SFP200A book production system from GAE.

The machine has been installed by the Sheffield-based company to handle short-run work, freeing up its Muller Martini saddlestiching line to handle longer-run work.

According to David Illsley, partner at FSP, the Horizon machine is perfect for short-run work because changeovers are so quick.

He said: "Before, some longer runs would take 12 hours on the Muller and it just took too long in setting up to interrupt it for short-run jobs. This meant we had to wait to complete them – often incurring overtime.

"We liked the fact the Horizon was so quick and easy to set up. Our operators can easily change from one job to the next much faster than they could on the Muller. Now we can keep the longer jobs on the Muller and put the short-run work on the Horizon. It makes us much more flexible and price competitive."

And Illsley believes that the machine will not only help his company now, but also in the future.

He added: "The fact we have both systems means we will be ideally placed to take full advantage of the market when work starts picking up."

Features on the 200A include a running speed of 4,500bph, a 200-programme job memory and icon-based touchscreen.
