Former Robert Horne sales director dies

Roger Bennett, who worked for Robert Horne Paper for 16 years, has died aged 83.

He passed away on 10 September after losing his battle with cancer.

Bennett joined Robert Horne Paper when it acquired his previous employer G E Lord in 1969. Robert Horne chairman Kenneth Horne moved Bennett from the Leicester plant to Leeds where he developed the company’s presence in the north of England.

Bennett transformed Robert Horne’s northern operations, expanding the Leeds and Bolton businesses and opening offices in Scotland, Newcastle and Liverpool.

He retired in 1985 after developing the business dramatically and has been credited with inspiring a number of successful industry salespeople.

Bennett was heavily involved with Mencap in Yorkshire, a commitment that strengthened into his retirement.

He is survived by his wife Alyx and children Robert, Paul, David and Sarah and will be missed along with his son Nicky, who died in 2011.
