Polestar Chantry will also take delivery of a new UV coater from Worldwide Graphics, to be installed alongside the Scheffer system at a total cost of around 750,000. The acquisitions will bring the number of cover production units at the company from six to eight.
The Scheffer inline, all-in-one slitter, rotary cutter and trimmer will be fitted to the company's eight unit Goss M600 press, providing a second dedicated cover production line. The system has a maximum running speed of 180,000 A4 four-page products an hour and a stock weight range between 40gsm and 170gsm.
Managing director of Polestar Chantry Lindsay Atkinson (pictured) said that the new coater would enable the company to offer a four-colour process with four-spot colours. Previously it was limited to six colours for covers.
"Although we have plenty of experience and a good reputation for cover production work, the Scheffer system will provide us with greater flexibility and versatility in terms of sizes, shapes, features and folds," he said.
Earlier this year Polestar Chantry picked up three new titles from publisher Hachette Filipacchi; it now prints seven out of their nine titles.
