EFI and Leggett & Platt settle UV-curing patent spat

Wide-format printer manufacturers EFI Vutek and Leggett & Platt (L&P) have resolved their patent litigation, which had been under way since May 2005.

The two have reached a non-confidential settlement, whose terms include no payment by either side. L&P has dismissed all of its claims against EFI and promised not to sue EFI or any of its customers based on a claim that EFI products infringe any of the patents covered by the lawsuits or any related patent.

The patents covered the use of on-printhead UV-curing, which both sides claimed to have invented.

L&P's printer division was sold to Wifag-Polytype in November 2008, and now trades as WP Digital. The Virtu line of printers continues to be manufactured by L&P subsidiary Spühl.
