EFI acquires Lector Computersysteme

EFI has acquired German MIS developer Lector Computersysteme for an undisclosed sum.

Lector, based in Mönchengladbach, provides German language software for print management information systems to around 1,000 customers in Germany.

EFI said the acquisition, which will not impact the company’s 2013 fourth-quarter or full-year results, will strengthen its reach of MIS provision across Europe.

“Germany has always been one of the world’s largest printing industry markets, so we are pleased to have Lector Computersysteme join EFI,” said general manager of EFI Productivity Software and interim chief financial officer, Marc Olin.

Lector founder and former owner Frank Metzback added: “EFI continues to prove it is a world-class provider when it comes to helping printing companies improve their management operations and grow profitably. We are excited to give our customers access to technology from the world’s leading developer of print MIS software.”

All Lector employees have been absorbed by the US-headquartered digital printing and software giant and will report to Sean Whelan, director of EMEA-region operations of EFI’s productivity software division.

Lector’s MIS products will be fully integrated into EFI’s productivity software portfolio while its technology developments will be used to complement EFI’s wide-format and super wide-format Vutek printers and digital front-end platform Fiery.

It is the fourth acquistion this year for EFI. Last month it bought Metrix Software, following the purchases in the summer of North American MIS developer PrintLeader and Belgian firm GamSys Software

They followed the acquisitions in 2012 of Technique, Online Print Solutions, Metrics and Cretaprint.
