British Polythene Industries (BPI) could be fined by the European Commission after admitting some of its business practices had broken European competition law.
A BPI spokesman said it was co-operating after its Greenock head office and two subsidiaries were raided by officials looking for evidence relating to a cartel.
BPI has already incurred legal and professional costs of 500,000, which look set to rise as the investigation continues.
