It found that 93% of print sector firms use external e-mail, which is above the national average of 87%. The survey was conducted by PricewaterhouseCoopers. Nearly 50% were using Electronic Data Exchange (EDI).
The headline results of the survey were revealed by Douglas Alexander MP, the e-commerce minister, who gave a speech at Ipex.
Alexander said the "sheer magnitude" of Ipex demonstrated the importance of the printing industry. He described the exhibition as "a truly world class event".
"Printing has been written off by too many people, too many times," Alexander added. "Yet the unique characteristics of print are enhanced by new technology."
BPIF chief executive Michael Johnson said: "I thought it was spot on, endorsing the concepts of Print 21 and taking it to the next level, which will be a single industry forum."
