DGI launches three new textile printers

Digital Graphics Incorporation (DGI, B6-B80) is using Fespa as the European launchpad for three digital textile printers it claims can beat rivals on speed, quality and price.

The Korean manufacturer of digital textile printers is targeting soft signage producers as well as those printing fabrics, clothes and home textiles with the FT-1608 and FT-1908 dye-sub textile printers.

Additionally, the 3.2m-wide FT-3204X is billed by marketing manager Alex Moon as a hybrid textile machine for printing on both fabrics and papers.

The FT-1608 costs around €36,500 (£31,000) and the FT-1908 is €38,500, said Moon, adding that this is about €10,000 cheaper than its closest rival.

He added: “Digital textile printers are getting more and more popular, but the productivity of the printers up to now has been too slow and the quality of the output not stable.

“DGI's main purpose is to develop and manufacture stable and fast production for these type of print companies. The three standout features are speed, quality and price.”

The FT-1608 and FT-1908 could run through a 100m roll in two and a half hours and both feature eight Panasonic 720dpi printheads, according to Moon.

He added: “This is two to three times faster than the previous generation of printers with Epson printheads. User-friendly features include a heavy-load take-up system that can load 400m rolls, easy interface so everything can be controlled from a PC, and a large-volume ink-tank capacity of six litres.”

The optional heavy-duty take-up system enables users to print a minimum of 200m with 100g transfer paper, and up to 400m with 50g non-coated papers.

Moon said DGI officially launched the two machines into the US market at last week's ISA Sign Expo in Las Vegas, but Fespa was the first European launch for the machines. Sabur is the UK dealer.

The third new European launch for Fespa, the FT-3204X, is a 3.2m hybrid textile printer for printing on both fabrics and papers, which Moon said was “very rare”.

“An optional dual-roll printing system maximises productivity as two 64in media can be printed at the same time.”

The machine, priced at about €82,500, was already used in the US for printing display materials at exhibitions and for printing home textiles.
