DCL Print expands Xerox fleet with Rialto 900 buy

Trade printer DCL Print has invested in a Xerox Rialto 900 Inkjet Press to support its growth and boost its flexibility.

DCL, which operates in the transactional mailing, security, label, commercial and business forms sectors, bought the device from Xerox reseller Xeretec.

The press will be installed at the firm’s Crawley site in the summer. The business, which also operates a second site in Wotton-under-Edge, Gloucestershire, signed for the machine at last week’s Hunkeler Innovationdays event in Lucerne, Switzerland, where the press was launched.

The Rialto 900 is, according to Xerox, the world’s only fully integrated roll-to-cut sheet, narrow-web inkjet press.

The machine prints duplex jobs, has a small footprint of 3.6x1.6m, which includes the press tower, and has been designed for printers producing 1.5m to 5m impressions per month.

Other features include 1,000dpi perceived resolution for high-quality output and missing jet detection and duplex matching that are integrated and automated.

DCL also runs a Fujifilm Acuity 1600 LED and Xerox kit including an iGen 150, which it signed for at Ipex last year, an iGen 4, a Color J75, two 700s, and two Nuvera 120s at its Crawley site.

Managing director Simon Smode said: “We’ve made this investment to support out growth. Our two iGens are in saturation so this machine will hit the right sweet spot and also free up some capacity for lots of other high-quality work that we produce with the iGen.

“It will enable us to increase our flexibility to dispatch existing and new work within a smaller window whilst still having the capacity of the iGens.

“We’d been considering another iGen but because this is compact it will give us a lot more flexibility as to where we position it.

“We know inkjet is coming and we’ve been talking to a couple of manufacturers about it. It’s getting wider, faster and better and this machine is a good stepping stone into the inkjet market for the transactional and transpromo work that we do.”

DCL Print has around 75 staff across its two sites and a turnover of £6.4m.
