DC Thomson buys Scottish Wedding Directory

DC Thomson has bought independent publisher Scottish Wedding Directory, including its magazine and website, for an undisclosed sum.

Following completion of the deal Scottish Wedding Directory (SWD) is now wholly owned by the Dundee-based newspaper and comic publishing company.

However, SWD will remain a separate legal entity with managing director Lorna Leckie and sales director Craig Carson retaining their positions.

A DC Thomson spokeswoman told PrintWeek that integration plans for the two businesses were currently in progress. SWD has 15 staff members.

SWD has outsourced the printing of its wedding magazine to Garnett Dickinson for the past seven years and DC Thomson confirmed that it would continue to be printed by the Yorkshire-based firm.

Leckie said it was "a great opportunity" for Scottish Wedding Directory and would benefit readers and clients alike.

She added: "DC Thomson's extensive experience combined with our industry knowledge will improve our brand exposure and the accessibility of our magazine and online presence."

DC Thomson chief executive Ellis Watson said: "Scottish Wedding Directory will complement our existing brands, in particular our mature and women’s titles, and strengthen our business portfolio."
