Cotton paper for digital and letterpress launched by Mohawk

US fine paper specialist Mohawk has launched Strathmore Impress, a “super-premium” uncoated paper made from 100% cotton fibre that can be used for digital, letterpress, engraving and foiling.

Strathmore Impress has a tactile, luxurious finish and uses the i-Tone surface treatment for HP Indigo presses to enable the combination of digital and processes such as letterpress on the same sheet.

“Since 1892, the Strathmore name has been synonymous with the finest American-made papers,” said Mohawk creative director Chris Harrold. “Given that 2017 was the 125th birthday of Strathmore we thought it would be great to launch a new line that brings legendary craftsmanship to a new generation.”

The new grade was unveiled at the 2017 National Stationery Show in New York.

GF Smith, which stocks Mohawk and Strathmore is in discussions with Mohawk regarding bringing the paper to the UK.

GF Smith’s relationship with Strathmore dates back over 100 years; the firm introduced the US brand to the UK and Europe in 1900.

“Strathmore Impress has the promise of combining the dark arts of letterpress and foiling with the personalisation possibilities of digital,” said GF Smith joint managing director John Haslam. “It is a look to the future with a glimpse of the past.”
