Nick O’Reilly from Numerica has been appointed by the directors to assist in the winding up of the company and oversee the business for the next two weeks.
“We informed staff of impending redundancy when we were appointed on 1 August. They were told that the company couldn’t afford to employ them, but if they carried on working for the next few days, without guarantee of being paid, we’d find interested parties who may take the company on,” said O’Reilly.
According to Vernon Robson, Anglia GPMU branch secretary, the news came as a “complete surprise” to staff.
“There was no consultation and we weren’t contacted, even though we are recognised by the company and have assisted in the past. We’re now looking at whether we have a case for failing to consult,” said Robson.
Seven of the 30-plus staff have been made redundant, and the rest will lose their jobs today (9 August) if no offers for the firm are made.
