Wide-format printer CIM Signs & Graphics has taken delivery of its “largest, fastest, and most eco-friendly printer to date”, a Nyala 4 from SwissQprint.

The machine, which was installed in June, will enable the Rackheath, Norwich-based business to offer additional services in-house, as well as speeding up its workflow and removing some plastics from the print process.

The Nyala 4 has significantly increased CIM’s capacity for largescale print, allowing the company to print up to 3m in width by 2m in length on flat sheets or “a virtually unlimited length” on rolls in one continuous run.

It is also able to print on almost any surface, from doors to fabric, up to 50mm thick. The machine is 200% faster than the other machines owned by CIM, enabling faster workflow and cutting its lead times, while also operating very energy efficiently.

CIM said the machine will enable it to meet growing demand for more environmentally friendly exhibition materials, as well as more largescale print on paper, card, and other recyclable materials.

The device can also print white, which allows double-sided print on clear items such as glass to be done in a single run. CIM will also use it to print raised lettering and braille, as well as textured surfaces.

The business was awarded a £54,200 grant from the New Anglia Local Enterprise Partnership’s (LEP) Growing Business Fund, which assisted with the purchase of the new machine and the recruitment of four additional staff.

Its new employees include an experienced printer, a junior designer, a signmaker, and a skilled vehicle wrapper. An apprentice is also currently joining the business, with further roles still available for sign and graphic installers.

Mark Baker, managing director of CIM, said: “We are delighted to install this new printer. The capabilities of the Nyala are like no other printer we own and give us the opportunity to help our customers to make more eco-friendly print choices while at the same time, continuing to meet tight deadlines and offer great customer service.

“We’ve already started to put this machine through its paces by printing on everything from yoga mats and corrugated card displays though to plywood and glass backsplashes.

“With three new team members already onboard and more staff set to join us at CIM, we can’t wait to show our customers just what we can do to help them get their businesses noticed.”

Established in 2000, CIM’s customers include QD Group, Mattressman, Batemans, Broadland Housing, Gasway, Mayday, Norfolk Wildlife Trust, and The Alarm Company.
