Chesapeake expands with French acquisition

Chesapeake Pharmaceutical and Healthcare Packaging has acquired French leaflet manufacturer Pharmapost for an undisclosed sum.

The acquisition of Montargis-based Pharmapost from its parent company Cegedim was completed on 30 April.

Packaging giant Chesapeake now has four factories in France dedicated to the pharmaceutical and healthcare market, including two folding carton facilities at Angoulême and Ussel and two leaflet production sites in Saint Pierre Des Corps and Montargis.

The group's chief executive Mike Cheetham said that the acquisition would help the group to strengthen its customer base and extend its product range.

"We will keep looking for new opportunities to consolidate our network in other countries both through acquisition and customer-focused investment," he added.

Chesapeake continental Europe managing director Philippe Ferrand said: "Pharmapost complements our existing leaflet production facility in Saint Pierre des Corps, offering our customers a greater range of products as well as the reassurance of a back-up facility."

In 2011 Pharmpost, which has 60 staff, produced 470m pharmaceutical patient information leaflets along with other printed medical related products including booklets and questionnaires.

Cegedim chief executive Jean-Claude Labrune said: "This acquisition enables Pharmapost to continue its development within a dedicated group which has a culture that complements its own."

Chesapeake has 43 sites in Asia, Europe and the US and employs 5,100 staff worldwide.
