Chesapeake aims to increase global strength with kit investments

US-owned packaging group Chesapeake has expanded its global presence after a series of investments at its sites across the world.

An eight-unit long perfector, a Heidelberg Speedmaster SM 74-8-P+L, has been installed at Chesapeake's Westport plant in Ireland, and its Nottingham site has taken delivery of a Diana Pro folder gluer.

The group has also invested in a Heidelberg Speedmaster CD 102-6 at its plant in Kunshan, China.

In addition, Chesapeake has targeted growth in the German market and installed a Speedmaster XL 105-8 press at its site in Düren, Germany. A six-colour Roland 700 HiPrint press has also been commissioned for its Frankfurt site.

Bob Houghton, Chesapeake corporate marketing and communications manager, said the investments are a result of the company looking at how it supplies Central Europe. Houghton also highlighted plans for growth in Northern America.

Earlier this year, the company said it would look to pursue further growth through acquisition.

The investments are part of improvement initiatives following the company's first-quarter results announcement in May, which were reported as "worse than expected."
