The large-format specialist, based in Stratford in East London, has commissioned a bespoke 3x2m flatbed press for the digital wing of its 14m six-acre site. Capital managing director David Gill said the ink-jet press would be delivered within four weeks. "Our digital department's roof wasn't high enough, once it is the machine can go in," he said.
He declined to give further specifications for the press, but said that its speed and quality would be higher than industry standards. Gill said the investment was aimed at taking on the screen sector: "The 300-400 runs are still dominated by screen printing. Those are the runs we're looking at, to take the screen market."
The new kit will add to the firm's digital arsenal of two 2.2m-wide Agfa Sherpa ink-jet printers, two 1.6m HP5500 printers and two 1.1m machines.
Capital has also revealed a strategic partnership with London-based firm Digital Display Corporation which specialises in in-store graphic projections and animation. Gill said that the link-up would target flagship and high-profile stores. On the litho side, the company's large-format KBA 205 press is set for delivery early in 2005.
