The flatbed UV printer has printheads capable of producing variable-sized droplets as fine as six picolitres for high-detail work or as large as 42 picolitres for strong block colours.
According to Cameo, the variable drop sizes use ink more efficiently and offer resolutions in excess of 1,200dpi. The HD Acuity 2504 can print at speeds of up to 16sqm per hour.
Cameo is already producing 80% of its wide-format work on the machine – work that it previously had to put through two roll-fed solvent printers.
The purchase has also increased the number of substrates it can print on; Cameo has already used the printer to produce work on PVC, card, paper and vinyl and has successfully trialled printing to stainless steel.
Director John Moffett said: "Previously, if a thick substrate was required for the job, we had to print on to vinyl and stick this to another material. The Acuity has eliminated a process by allowing us to print directly on to the substrate, more quickly and with better quality.
"The results have all been superb. With clients that include jewellery makers, we have to be able to offer a quality that cannot be faulted in any way."
Cameo specialises in commercial and industrial photography, as well as wide-format work for local businesses.
