Bolton Council increases capacity with Polar buy

Bolton Metropolitan Council's (BMC) printing inplant has increased its capacity with the purchase of a guillotine from Heidelberg.

The print site has installed a Polar 78X guillotine replacing its previous machine, which had been in use for some 26 years.

BMC's print site handles work for the council and other public bodies, including letterheads, compliment slips, leaflets and business cards – printed on a GTO-4 four-colour press.

David Duddle, production coordinator and guillotine operator, said: "This will make a vast difference to productivity. The Polar 78X is faster and will give us greater precision. We can even store complex and regular jobs."

According to Duddle, the previous machine, also a Polar, was still working to an acceptable standard, but spare parts were becoming difficult and expensive to obtain.
