Battle Stamps

The Royal Mail has issued a set of six commemorative stamps to mark the bicentenary of the Battle of Trafalgar.

However, despite the fact that Admiral Nelson's victory was over his French and Spanish adversaries, Cartor Security Print in France was appointed to print the stamps, which depict battle scenes.

A spokesman for the Royal Mail said that the company, which is an arm of the UK-based Walsall Print Group, was chosen for reasons of time and the unusual format size of the stamps, which measure 60x21mm.
