Barclay’s upgrades Linoprint technology

Four years after buying its first digital press from Heidelberg, Barclay’s Print has returned for a Linoprint CP, the high-speed 130ppm model.

The east London-based commercial printer took delivery of the device, which has replaced a Linoprint C901, at its 929sqm premises last week.

The Linoprint CP, which is suitable for 52gsm to 400gsm production, can handle 330x488mm standard sheets or 330x700mm banner formats.

Managing director David Amos said: “It’s faster than the other machine and we’ve got the ability to print six-page A4 work as well as print on thicker stock and more textured papers because of the way the toner is applied to the material.

“The machine will be even more robust and reliable and the quality is another step up with minimal risk of banding.”

An all-Heidelberg house, Barclay’s also operates a five-colour B1 Speedmaster CD 102 with coater, a five-colour Speedmaster XL 75 with coater and a two-colour Printmaster 52 as well as a wide variety of finishing kit including a Heidelberg Cylinder, folders, guillotines, stitchers, binders, and laminators.

“We are loyal Heidelberg customers and we like to be at the forefront of technology. If you stand still you die so you have to keep up and to offer customers great solutions,” said Amos.

He added that 75% of the company’s turnover is still litho but that its digital work is continuing to grow.

“We’ve seen a massive uptake in digital work and we keep the press constantly busy. Most end-users leave it to us whether a job is printed litho or digital but trade customers often specify,” said Amos.

Barclay’s, which has 25 staff, serves trade customers, agencies and end-users. The business also has a Print Resource Service Centre, which provides free advice and technical support to clients, designers and specifiers.
