ActiveMagazine is a new product from US-based Olive Software. The firm has already developed a similar tool for the newspaper sector, which is used for the online version of the Daily Telegraph and an as yet unnamed major UK paper.
A UK publisher is piloting ActiveMagazine. The software takes text and images from the PDF file prepared for print and, using XML, creates a version suitable for electronic viewing without the need for any operator intervention or coding.
Previously online publications amounted to bland HTML or massive static PDF files of the printed version, said Olive vice president of sales and marketing Shaun Dail. We can deliver online copy that replicates the printed version while capturing the dynamic advantage the web gives.
Applecart has appointed Elizabeth Oddono as sales director. She was most recently at Shira and before that worked at Vio and Scitex.
