Pro-File, a digital image auditing scheme, will be launched next year by the Association of Photographers (AOP).
It is aimed at all digitally supplied files, including illustrations.
"The issue isnt the quality of digital photography but the quality of the supplier," said Bob Marchant, chairman of the AOP digital imaging group. "The problem area is between the photographer and the press."
It has been looking at the problem for some time and has worked with the London College of Printing to develop ICC profiles of presses so its members can predict the look of their work when printed.
Marchant announced the scheme at the PPAs Digital Production Conference.
"For the photographers to be working on this rather than pre-press, publishers or printers is to be applauded," said TFG systems director Marcus Kirby.
