Alchemy Coatings reborn after administration

Finishing specialist Alchemy Coatings has been placed into administration but its sister company Silk Hat Greetings has adopted the trading name and will continue trading the business.

Thomas Fox of Umbrella Accountants was appointed by directors as Alchemy Coatings Limited’s administrator on 16 July.

The Manchester-based firm’s listed directors at the time of administration were Nigel Anderson and Elizabeth Anderson, both of whom are also listed as the directors of Silk Hat Greetings Limited, a sister company established in February 2017.

In two separate Re-use of a Prohibited Name notices to creditors filed on the London Gazette, each director has given notice that that they intend to carry on “the whole or substantially the whole of the business of the insolvent company” under the following name: Silk Hat Greetings Limited t/a Alchemy Coatings.

Established in 2004 as Alchemy Print Finishers, the business changed its name to Alchemy Coatings in 2009. It offers coating services including spot UV varnish, overall UV varnish, glitter varnish, film lamination, guillotining, foil blocking, remoist gumming and latex rub-remove/scratch-off ink.

Alchemy’s most recently filed accounts, for the year ended 30 April 2017, said the average number of employees during the prior year was 12.

The company’s staff number and turnover at the time of administration, as well as the reasons for the failure of the business, are unclear. The directors had not responded to requests for comment at the time of writing while the administrator declined to comment.
