AGI Media gets ISO 14001 accreditation

Packaging printer AGI Media has boosted its environmental credentials after its Slough operation became ISO 14001 accredited.

The company set up a system to lessen the 100-staffed facility's impact on the environment. It now manages its waste efficiently by recycling board and reprocessing chemicals used in manufacturing.

Slough general manager Andy Watts said: "Our customers are conscious of the importance of green issues and we believe they will increasingly ask their suppliers questions about how seriously they take their responsibility to the wider world.

"We strive for continual improvement and achieving recognisable third-party certifications provides assurance to our customers that we are a trusted and reliable partner."

AGI has also received recognition at the Sony Group's green partner supplier scheme, where Sony auditors visit suppliers to check environmental management activities.

If suppliers meet Sony's standards, they qualify as green partners and the accreditation will then be renewed every two years.

AGI Media Packaging recorded a turnover of £41.7m in 2008, and the company supplies packaging to the home entertainment industry and the software and telecoms industries.

Existing accreditations include FSC, PEFC and ISO 9001 NQA quality management standard, and the company is also looking at its footprint and how it can reduce electricity consumption levels.
