Agfa acquires Filmtechnik

Agfa has increased the footprint of its UK distribution network with the acquisition of Filmtechnik.

Filmtechnik has branches in Sevenoaks and Southampton, and sells a range of pre-press kit and consumables, press consumables and sundries, finishing supplies, and wide-format equipment and consumables.

The business was founded in 1990 by Terry O’Neill, who has now retired.

Agfa UK managing director Joergen Vad said Filmtechnik was an established dealer with an excellent reputation, and the takeover was a good solution for all parties.

“I have the greatest respect for Terry. He saw that he needed to act to move the business on for the benefit of customers and staff, by doing a deal that is good for everyone,” he said.

The deal was completed this week.

Agfa acquired its own distribution network when it purchased Litho Supplies four years ago. The Filmtechnik business will now also trade under the Litho Supplies name.

“The business fits well in our map of Litho Supplies and other dealers, it is not conflicting with our other sales channels,” Vad added.

Terms of the acquisition were not disclosed. Filmtechnik employed around 15 staff, with some contract workers. Vad said the customer-facing employees were all staying with the business.

The company also sold some Kodak pre-press products, including CTP systems and plates, but it is not clear if that arrangement will continue under Agfa ownership.
