Abbeyhine cuts outsourcing with Rollem Advantage finishing kit

Abbeyhine is to bring a raft of work in-house after buying an Advantage finishing system from Rollem.

The Bury St Edmunds-based printer said it expected to speed up the turnaround of many of its jobs thanks to the investment.

Previously, work that required creasing was outsourced, slowing up turnaround times.

Finishing manager Mike Royal said: "In the present on-demand climate, you can’t produce a job quickly in the pressroom only to wait a day for it to be creased at a finishing house.

"Abbeyhine operates a wide range of Heidelberg presses and normally we perforate jobs on the press, but the Rollem system will enable us to handle this process in the bindery department, which will be more efficient."

Rollem introduced an upgraded version of the Advantage machine at Ipex, which incorporated a new Digital Scoring System that the company claimed provides high quality scoring of substrates of thicknesses of 80-700gsm without the risk of cracking.

The system can be used to score, slit, trim, bleed and semi-slit, perforate, micro-perforate and slit-perforate.

Rollem’s standard model can handle stocks ranging in size from 125x125mm to 580x610mm, although bespoke sizes can also be produced. A5 work can be processed on the machine at speeds of up to 15,000sph.
