60 seconds with Strath Print

Strath Print was set up by directors Martin Benson and Peter Dunlop a decade ago, after the publisher they worked for closed its print division. The five-strong business is the only printing company on the beautiful Isle of Skye.

What does your firm do?

Much of our work is publicity material for tourism-related businesses, but we also design and print a wide variety of other material, including greetings cards, raffle tickets, NCR work and occasionally books

What’s your typical customer?

We are the only printers in a large, sparsely populated area, so we cater for all manner of customers, including many very small businesses and some very high-profile hotels and tourist attractions

Which geographic areas do you serve?

Most of our customers are on Skye and the nearby mainland, with a growing number in the outer Isles, but we have a small band of customers in remote places like London, Paris and Australia

What’s your USP?

We are very accessible. Our customers like face-to-face contact, and we like that too

What’s your company’s motto/mission statement?

‘Do it nice or do it twice’

What equipment do you run?

Apple Macs in the studio, Ryobi 522HXX and Xerox 560 for print, and a motley collection of finishing equipment

What’s been your proudest achievement in the past few years?

The thousands of pounds we have raised for Macmillan Cancer Support through sales of our calendar

Where do you see your business in five years’ time?

On Skye, serving the local business community

What’s your team’s favourite biscuit?

We are mindful of our waistlines and don’t eat biscuits except when some generous customer donates them, in which case they disappear like snow off a dyke
