60-seconds with: Ruddocks

Ruddocks has been going since 1884 and lays claim to being Lincoln’s largest commercial print business. Since the forebears of current chairman Henry Ruddock took over the business it has grown from a high-street printer into today’s £2.5m-turnover multi-disciplinary print outfit, with recent developments including the addition of a creative studio.

Where are you based?

Lincoln

How many staff do you have?

40

What does your firm do?

All types of commercial print, predominantly marketing literature, but including books, stationery, exhibition graphics, training materials, newsletters, magazines and even a few unusual projects such as 160ft scaffold hoarding and the sides of 40ft lorries

What’s your typical customer?

Good ones! We have a hugely diverse range of customers and most are incredibly loyal to us. We believe in building friendly relationships and work closely with our customers to understand their business

Which areas do you serve?

We have clients across the UK

What equipment do you run?

A Heidelberg XL 75 5+L-C, Xerox 1000, Mimaki large-format and a host of binding kit from the likes of Horizon, Morgana. But it’s the staff that operate them that makes the difference

What’s been your proudest achievement in the past few years?

There have been so many to be honest. We have won a large and successful contract with a national chain of four- and five-star hotels, and have lots of projects and clients that we are proud to work with and for. But perhaps if we had to single one out it would be the Visit Lincoln brand, which won us accolades from the people of Lincoln. To be responsible for the brand of your home city has to be something to be proud of

What’s your team’s favourite biscuit?

It would have to be Jaffa Cakes. Who doesn’t love a good Jaffa Cake?
