Speakers unveiled for free PrintWeek event on publishing's digital opportunity

The speakers for <i>PrintWeek</i>'s Oxford breakfast briefing on the digital opportunity in publishing have been unveiled.

Peter Blunt, digital process manager at leading children's book publisher Egmont will focus on the company's approach to POD and the challenges it faces in areas such as personalised children's books.

He will also share Egmont's e-books strategy and speak on how, rather than being a threat, the medium actually represents an opportunity not only for publishers, but also printers who can use the new technology to expand their relationship with clients and develop a more collaborative approach to working with publishers.

Taylor & Francis manufacturing and distribution manager Andy Pitts will talk about some of the challenges facing academic publishers and how the meteoric rise of print-on-demand has created a whole host of new opportunities.

Based on his experience of buying print, materials and distribution services for more than 900 titles globally, Pitts will discuss how printers can develop more effective partnerships with clients and highlight some of the needs and wants of academic publishers.

The final speaker at the Oxford event will be Francis Atterbury – a director of award-winning fine art and photographic book consultancy Hurtwood.

He will explain why he believes in the power of digital and will talk though some of the high-profile digitally produced projects he has managed, looking at how the quality of digital print is no longer a stumbling block, but an opportunity.

The free event, supported by HP, is targeted at buyers and printers in the publishing sector that are either considering a move into digital, or keen to discover new ways to grow their existing digital business.

The PrintWeek breakfast briefing will take place at the Oxford Malmaison hotel from 9.00am to midday on 24 March.
