Sappi increases prices for speciality products

Sappi Fine Paper Europe has said it will increase the price of its speciality products by 6% as of 1 May.

All of the paper manufacturer's European and overseas markets will be affected by the increase, which follows on from a price hike earlier in the year.

Gregory Gettinger, director specialities at Sappi Fine Paper Europe, said the business had seen a "continued strong demand" for the products.

He said: "Our past price rises have barely compensated for the extraordinary cost increases.
"The upwards trend of cost increases in oil-related additives, starches and wood is having a serious effect on our margins and makes our latest price increase unavoidable."

Sappi manufactures coated fine paper and dissolving pulp. Its brands include many well-known graphic papers, as well as speciality labelling, packaging and release liner papers and boards.

In February, Sappi Fine Paper Europe also announced it would increase the price of its coated fine papers by a minimum of 8% as of 1 March for non-contractual business and 1 April for contractual business.

The company also said it would increase the price of its uncoated fine papers by 5-8% in March for the entire business.
