PEFC celebrates 10-year anniversary

PEFC has celebrated its 10-year anniversary and revealed that printers make up more than a third of the certifications awarded in the UK to date.

Since it was established, some 1,300 chain of custody certifications have been issued, of which around 500 have gone to printers.

Hilary Khawam, communications director, said: "Figures for the number of printers with PEFC certification changes all the time as some companies sadly go to the wall and new ones come in.

"All in all though, more than half of the chain of custody certifications are for the print, paper and publishing sectors."

She added that in an effort to promote the printers that have invested in PEFC chain of custody, PEFC now has a printer database on its relaunched website which went live in April.

PEFC UK accounts for 20% of the total global certifications, and in March it announced that 1m hectares of UK forests have been awarded PEFC forest management certification.
