Komori shows off Lithrone and Spica waste-reducing presses

Komori has used Print 09 to exhibit three presses that it said highlight waste reduction and increased profitability.

The newest addition to the Lithrone S family has been on the stand, the Lithrone SX40, the Lithrone SX29 and for the first time at a US exhibition, the five-colour Spica 29 convertible perfector press.

Susan Baines, Komori America Corporation director of marketing, said: "Currently, printers have to maximise their efficiency more than ever, and the three machines we have on display at Print 09 are a good example of how printers can do just that.

"It's no longer just about speed, but now waste production. It is not about more work for less money."

She said the other product being exhibited at the show is the KHS-AI, the quality control tool the company said improves productivity and reduces waste.

Komori said it wanted to maximise attendance at the show given the current economy, and so choose to exhibit three presses.

She said: "Attendance at Print 09 is expected to be less than it has been in previous years.

"However, print grew in August in the US, and that suggests that the recession has hit bottom. There are very small signs of recovery."

Komori has also launched a Twitter and Facebook services, which Baines said are ways for Komori to look at different ways of reaching customers.

"We have to keep in mind that many second and third generations are now working as printers, and moving online is one direct way to target them."
