Jagran installs five-colour Cityline Express towers at its Mid Day plant in Navi Mumbai

Jagran Prakashan has commissioned a new Manugraph Cityline Express at Mid Day's (acquired by Jagran Prakashan) plant at Rabale in Navi Mumbai.

The Cityline includes five four-colour towers to produce 20-broadsheet colour pages with a cut-off size of 546mm at the speed of 35,000 impressions per hour.

The Rabale plant prints Mid Day in English and Gujarati; the broadsheet Inquilab in Urdu, the Jagran City Plus supplement and the Sunday Mid Day.

Sarvesh Kumar Singh, assistant general manager–engineering at Jagran Prakashan, said: "The circulation has increased, so has the demand of printing. We needed additional capacity to cater to increasing demand and simultaneously cut down on wastages."

Singh added: "The new press has features like Quadtech Multicam register control system, spray dampening, mono- and H-unit with integrated unwind, tower with standalone unwind, auto-splicer, motorised registration, taper roller bearing and Baldwin UCP. These features will not only save time and wastage but will also enhance quality."

Running alongside the new CityLine are Manugraph HiLine press with two four-colour towers and the other CityLine Express with four four-colour towers. Two Krause CTP plaresetters produce around 150 to 200 violet plates per day to feed their Cityline and Hiline press, plates for which are supplied by Fujifilm and TechNova.

Besides the presses, the Navi Mumbai plant is equipped with mailroom systems from Newstech. And to complement the new Cityline, Jagran will soon be adding another one, but from MM Technology.

"More and faster presses will increase print production. And to match up with the speed we will required additional facility to cater to post-print production," said Singh.
