Heidelberg iPhone app unveiled

Heidelberg has unveiled a prototype iPhone app that allows printshop managers to monitor the performance of their presses while on the move.

A demo version of Prinect Mobile is being shown on the manufacturer's stand in Hall 6 and the company is aiming to make it commercially available by the end of the year

Prinect Mobile features a number of different functions. Users can view jobs and get machine status reports, as well as shift reports. Marcel Kiessling, Heidelberg's head of services, said that the app "shows the power of integrating from front to back".

"If you are a printshop owner, Prinect Mobile gives you complete transparency. It means that you can find out what is going on in your printshop at all times," he added.

While an exact launch date has yet to be set, Kiessling said that the app was ready and that the company was looking to get feedback on it at the show. He hinted that the app, which is only available for the iPhone, could be released later this year.

At Heidelberg's eve-of-show press conference there were also strong hints that a larger-format Anicolor might be made available at some point in the near future.

When quizzed as to whether a 74 version of the Anicolor was in the pipeline, Heidelberg chairman Bernhard Schreier said: "We're working on what can be done with Anicolor in different format sizes."
