Drupa unveils new area in its Innovation Park

A new area devoted to innovation in business strategy and marketing will form part of the Drupa Innovation Park at next year’s show.

This part of hall 7 at the show at Messe Düsseldorf, Germany from 31 May to 10 June, will look at how to make a business out of a brilliant technological idea.

Messe Düsseldorf UK representative Paul Evans said: “The new area will explore business ideas, concepts and marketing solutions. It’s about the way technology is applied and monetised.”

Drupa Innovation Park (DIP) will feature around 130 exhibitors in six themed areas. This section of Drupa is aimed at first-time exhibitors and start-ups that do not want to commit to a full-sized booth. Instead they take a desk in a more open area, which leads to a concentration of “exciting new companies”, according to Evans. Because of its nature, it is the only part of Drupa still taking bookings from exhibitors.

“It’s almost like a starter booth. The general idea it to give companies like that the opportunity to show their products and ideas and network," said Evans.

"It’s usually quite a buzzy area. The exhibitors are all entrepreneurial types and they quite happy to have a chat with the booth next door. It’s an exciting area for companies to exhibit in and it’s well worth while visiting.”

DIP partner, global standards organization CIP4, will once again focus on automation and optimisation in the Process Optimisation and Automation zone and will outline how the industry’s JDF standard is capable of automating a multi-vendor environment composed of software and hardware vendors.

“Automation and optimisation are topics that are not only current, but also essential objectives to accomplish in order for print service providers to strive in today’s print marketplace," said spokeswoman Julie Watson.

The increase in cloud-based computing has raised security worries. Essen-based i1BOX is showing one solution, a maintenance-free miniserver that stays within the customer's premises.

Lenticular printing will feature again and Irish lenticular print specialist DPLenticular is a return DIP exhibitor in the Innovations in Printing Technologies zone

"The Drupa Innovation Park is an excellent opportunity for us to present what is still an innovative printing technology and reach new target audiences," said founder and managing director Daniel Pierret. The Lenticular Award will once again be presented at Drupa, on 2 June at 5pm.

The other themed areas at DIP are: Multichannel Publishing and Marketing Solutions, Web-to-Media and E-Commerce, Added Value in Print and Business Models.

Visitors can also benefit from a series of presentations, panel discussions and interviews on the DIP stage.

DIP has been running since 2004.
