Comexi unveils hybrid flexo press

Spanish flexo press manufacturer Comexi (Hall 10, stand C62-1) has developed a new machine configuration for flexible packaging printing that is being launched at drupa.

The Comexi C18 press combines offset and flexo technology and the manufacturer hopes that the new machine will establish itself as an alternative to the flexo process commonly used in this segment.

The company said the C18’s key advantages were improved print quality, lower-cost plate-making and shorter set-up times during job changes.

The design of the new machine is based on a central impression cylinder equipped with six offset and two flexo printing units. Thin plastic media made of PE, BOPP and PET can be printed with solvent-free offset inks and EB flexo coatings.

Comexi recommends this configuration for the production of flexible packaging products in short and medium-length runs, and for packaging applications such as shrink sleeves and wrap-around labels.

The first press in this series, which Comexi began developing four years ago, is on show at the company’s stand in Hall 10. Thereafter it will go into service with a first-time customer under commercial production conditions.
